玛格丽特 · 博洛夫斯基（Margaret Borowski），常被称作“梅”（Mae），是《林中之夜》的主人公，也是玩家可操控的第一个角色。
外貌
梅是一只有着深蓝毛色的猫，而她头上的毛自从被染成红色之后就一直在褪色，现在只剩下一些暗红的痕迹。
她不喜欢自己的红眼睛，并称它们为“梦魇之目”。
她的右耳因为狗的袭击而留下了两个缺口。静置时，梅会时不时抖动这只耳朵。
她穿着橙色衬衣，两边的长袖是红色的，正面是一个被斜杠贯穿的 0 的标志。
她的下装则是深色工装裤和一双“廉价的盗版绿色马丁大夫鞋”。[1]
她比负鼠泉的其他居民都要稍稍矮一些；同时她总觉得自己超重了。
不过梅非常同意她爷爷的评价，她这只是“健壮”而已。然而梅依然担心自己的穿着会显露她圆滚滚的身材。
性格
梅的童年和青春期并不怎么一帆风顺，抑郁情绪和愤怒问题常常困扰着她。汉克医生曾引导她去克服这些情绪。
直到后来，这些混乱情绪的根源才最终揭晓——它们只是精神分裂的副产物。她很刻薄，对周围人毫无尊重，对自己也百般挖苦，称自己是混蛋。
但随着游戏深入，梅的同情心也逐渐显露。她会安慰朋友；她会偷饼干喂给自己发现的一窝小老鼠。她爱自己的朋友们，且并不畏惧去表达这种情感。
梅非常怀旧。离开家乡上大学时，她常常回忆起负鼠泉的模样。辍学回家后，她也经常念叨起家乡数不清的变化。
梅精力旺盛，动作敏捷。只要她想，她就能爬到所有建筑的顶部去。
她的朋友、家人和警察（通常是她的阿姨）都知道她爱好四处跑跑跳跳，爬到电线杆上，像走钢丝一样踩在电线上行走等等。
梅是泛性恋；当问及理想对象时，她会回答“女的或男的”，她只会具体描述她所期望对方所拥有的人格特质。
游戏制作者后来声明梅并不一定认识“泛性恋”这个词。不过如果她知道的话，她很可能会用这个词来描述自己。[2]
背景
梅出生在 1996 或 1997 年，在 2017 年时她 20 岁。她是坎蒂和斯坦·博洛夫斯基的独女，他们家已经在负鼠泉的矿井里工作了数个世代。
矿井关闭后，他们两人努力工作存钱，好让梅可以成为第一个进入大学的博洛夫斯基。但梅只上了三个学期就回家，住进了父母的阁楼里。
梅似乎一直是个问题少女：她有些精神分裂、抑郁、毫无目标，且最近她认为自己与镇里的某种超自然现象有着联系。
高中时期，她的分裂症状引发了一次事故，从此她在镇上恶名昭彰。
她不知道该如何处理自己的情感，但一次偶然的机会让她发现镇上发生了诡异的事情，线索均指向树林中；这件事或许与她回家后频繁的诡异梦境有关。
在《失落星座》中，小时候的梅在问爷爷关于抢劫银行的事情，聊着聊着他们提起了监狱，随后梅问爷爷能不能讲个鬼故事。
《失落星座》的主线，即爷爷讲的鬼故事从此开始；途中会有小梅时不时打断故事，询问特定情节的问题。
人际关系
对象
梅在高中时有个男友柯尔，但两人早已分手了。
墓地里，三个奇怪少年中坐在较矮一层的 Britt 问碧娅和梅，关于她们的理想对象。梅用“他们”（they）来指代对象，且声称自己并不介意对方是女是男还是自认为的其他性别。
格雷格和梅抱怨他和安格斯是镇上唯二的酷儿（Queer）时，梅反驳说她也是啊，进一步确认了梅其实也是 LGBT+ 的一员。
而在制作者 Scott Benson 的 Curious Cat 提问箱中，他也已经确认了梅是泛性恋。[2]
好友
格雷格是梅在高中时期关系最亲密的朋友。这两人的麻烦制造组合在镇里名气很响，经常结伴去做一些被他们暗地里承认为“罪行”的事情。
高中之后，格雷格变得稍微稳重一些了，但在梅回家后，两人又重操旧业。游戏中，安格斯非常不满地指出了这一点。
碧娅是梅在 7 年级及之前的时间里关系最亲密的朋友，但两人之后便分道扬镳了。
两人都做过童子军。7 年级之后她们就不再一起玩了，虽然两人各自的理由都不甚相同。梅认为其中的原因是她们“在 12 岁时闹翻了”。
而碧娅只是觉得梅认为碧娅不够酷，不配出现在她身边。碧娅说突然之间，梅不再和她坐一起吃午饭，也不再回她的电话，每次都只和格雷格出去而不是她。
游戏开头，梅辍学回家，而碧娅显得有些怨恨她。碧娅因为家庭情况而无法继续接受教育，而梅却硬生生地浪费了完成大学学业的机会。
结尾，两人各自弥补了过往的种种缺憾，重新修复了关系。
起初梅并不认识安格斯。两人结识是因为安格斯是格雷格的男友。
游戏中，安格斯与梅逐渐熟悉起来，安格斯甚至愿意将自己非常私人的童年细节分享给梅。同时他也和格雷格、碧娅、梅在同一个乐队里。
如果玩家经常选择和榛一起出去逛，梅也会和榛成为亲密的好友。
榛似乎能够理解梅和她所处的困境。梅虽然不太懂榛或他的家庭，但她依然和榛合得来，并逐渐发现他其实既特殊也很有趣。
如果梅和榛足够熟，最后榛会邀请梅到家里做客，这可是连格雷格都做不到的事情。
梅的好友之一。在梅回家之前，他就失踪了。在梅和其他朋友调查时，发现他的失踪与镇里的邪教有关。
凯西曾是乐队里的鼓手，后来这个位置给了碧娅。他会和格雷格与梅一起去“犯罪”。
梅的邻居兼朋友之一。塞默斯喜欢将自己关于诗歌的想法分享给梅。如果梅很乐意聆听她的诗，她会相信自己能够成为更好的诗人。
梅并不喜欢学校，但她觉得自己很享受查佐科夫先生的星座课。回家之后，查佐科夫先生会邀请梅，每隔两天一起在屋顶上欣赏星星。
如果梅经常去和洛利一起呆在屋顶上的话，洛利也会逐渐和她熟络起来。洛利偶尔会邀请梅一起到铁路边躺着；梅会稍微安抚一下她缺乏自我认同的内心。
亲人
梅善良体贴的老妈。在梅离开家乡去上学之后，她依然和女儿维持着良好的关系。
但关于梅意外辍学的事情，她和梅还是吵了一架。看来梅的父母将必须成功的期望与压力全部放在了梅的身上。
梅友好而健忘的老爸。他忘记了梅回家的确切日期，因而没能去车站接她回家。最后他和梅同意假装这件事没发生过，而他准时去接了梅回来。
梅给姨妈起了绰号叫“Aunt Mall Cop”。茉莉虽然只是个不起眼的小镇警察，但她非常专业严谨。
游戏中，茉莉在废弃操场上首次遇到了梅，威胁说要逮捕她，随后将她送回了家。平心而论，茉莉对梅依然是很友善的，只不过因为她一直不相信梅的说辞，梅感到有些不快。
梅和爷爷的关系非常亲密。小时候，爷爷经常给梅讲鬼故事来催眠。爷爷去世后，梅通过他留下的一整箱恐怖故事来怀念他。

- 念白结束后，玩家作为梅出现在了车站里。往左走可以看到一台电视，它会自动播放“嘉宝和马洛伊”（Garbo and Malloy）的节目。
- 最左边是修理工，他会问你要一罐飞扬可乐（Fiascola）。梅必须要从右侧的自动售卖机里拿到可乐才能推动游戏进展。“这可是免费可乐”，梅说着，把饮料递给修理工。随后他会放你出去。
- 梅以为父母会来接她，但现在她不得不独自穿过树林走回去。她必须爬过一段废弃的原木。其中一条原木会在梅反复跳跃的时候断裂开来，其他木头也纷纷掉落下来，这反而方便梅爬过去。
- 接下来梅会来到废弃的锯木厂公园，里面有一条废弃的船；在船上连跳三下就可以跳上旁边的电线。走到左边时，梅会摔下来，并正好被茉莉姨妈抓到。姨妈让梅坐进车里，梅表示拒绝，随后她问“你想在监狱里度过第一晚吗？”，梅也表示拒绝。
- 回家后，斯坦正坐在沙发上，梅会走过去和他对话。梅以为他会去车站接她，而老爸说他以为梅明天才会回来。老爸还问梅有没有向茉莉姨妈问好，而梅只是说“警察滚蛋好吧！”。在梅说自己要睡觉之后，第一篇日记会自动记录下来。选择回房间睡觉之后，第 1 天就这样结束了。
